MOLECULAR GENETICS TESTS - DNA EXTRACTION AND STORAGE
 
 
DNA Banking Facility:
The Molecular Genetics Laboratory serves as DNA banking facility. DNA is extracted and cryopreserved for a period of up to 20 years in the laboratory DNA bank. A signed consent form must be submitted with the sample.

Speciment Requirements:
Blood: 3 x 4.0mL whole blood into EDTA tubes . Invert several times to mix. Forward within 24-48 hours at ambient temperature.

Paediatric Samples: Minimum of 3mL whole blood in EDTA tubes.

CAUTION:

  • A consent form has to be signed by the patient and forwarded to the laboratory if his/her DNA is for long term storage.

DNA Extraction and sendaway for tests at Other Centers
Prior to requesting tests that are undertaken by other laboratories please determine the following, and document this with the request.

  • Samples requirements, if other than DNA please contact the Laboratory to determine whether the laboratory is able to process such a sample.
  • Testing laboratory name and contact person
  • Shipping address
We also require a sendaway form to be filled out and forwarded to the laboratory.

NOTE:

  • Our laboratory is not responsible for any test charges incurred.
  • Consent forms, pedigree and any relevant clinical information as required by the testing laboratory must accompany any request for testing at other centers
